Why Do We Still Avoid It?

Why Do We Still Avoid It?

How much of a fan are you of personal protective equipment? Do you wear gloves when you work? Do you wear safety glasses or goggles when you clean? What about masks?

My question goes a little deeper than whether you do or do not wear safety equipment.

Why?

I would genuinely like to know the reason. Over the years, safety equipment has improved dramatically. It fits better, performs better, and is generally more comfortable to wear than ever before. Yet many people still choose not to use it.

Why?

I can think of plenty of reasons, but there must be more.

Gloves are easier to wear than they have ever been. They are more comfortable, more flexible, and less likely to make your hands sweat. Still, many cleaners do not see the value in wearing them.

Safety glasses have also come a long way. They are lighter, more comfortable, and far more stylish than they used to be. Sometimes, spending just a few dollars more on a better pair can make all the difference in whether someone chooses to wear them.

Have you ever been properly fitted for safety glasses? Have you ever taken the time to find a pair that truly works for you?

Even if a quality pair of safety glasses costs $100, it is inexpensive compared to the consequences of a serious eye injury or permanent vision damage.

The same principle applies to all personal protective equipment. The right gear only works if it is used.

At the end of the day, health and safety are not about checking a box. They are about protecting yourself so you can go home in the same condition you arrived.

We can help fit your staff with the right protective equipment. It just might be the next step forward in creating a stronger culture of health and safety.
